PAT Training Courses and Workshops

Bio-Waves hosts an annual four and a half day Passive Acoustic Monitoring Technician (PAT) training course. Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) of marine animals is becoming prevalent within academia, private research institutes, Navy-sponsored research and monitoring programs, and the oil and gas industry. This course is aimed at working professionals, academics, and those just starting out or interested in the field of marine bioacoustics. The course combines theoretical instruction with hands-on demonstrations to give participants a working knowledge of passive acoustic monitoring hardware and software, acoustic analysis software, data review and processing methods, and data management. The goal of this course is to provide individuals with the necessary tools and basic skills to prepare them for work as passive acoustic field technicians.
